I ordered the history curriculum for summer school. I decided on The History of the World by Susan Wise Bauer. I found some free curriculum on evolution on the web as well as a Montessori Album. So, I plan to combine the information to create a suitable curriculum. I chose to do this because I couldn't find much about evolution and world religions that had a slant towards Christianity. I'd like the children to see the other point of views. I honestly believe it will make their own beliefs on faith a little more concrete. I ordered several books on World Religions--college textbooks--but I think K will find them rather fascinating. I am integrating the science curriculum the children's cyber-school sent over the year and reteach them (except G who got next year's curriculum early so she'll be learning new material) to firm up their knowledge of the sciences. My hope is to do as much of this as a unit study as possible--except Math. I am pretty set on the Math curriculum staying with Singapore. I need to order more curriculum.
M surprised me by the knowledge she had with the workbook and finished 1B early. I had printed extra worksheets as a way to make sure she knows the materials and she does. So, we need to move onto 2A. This puts her not far behind her grade level of just finishing 2nd grade. She seemed weak on the placement tests when I gave it to her originally, but I may give it to her again to see. I know she struggles with measurement so I plan to do a whole review of measurement and fractions with both older girls. G is doing extremely well with her 1A level. K just finished up her Math test for the cyberschool so she will begin Singapore tomorrow. She's a quick learner so I am confident she'll ace through the 4rd & 4th grade material by the end of the summer. My hope is all three girls will be in their proper grade level with that math curriculum.
